Burning Season

Burning Season is defined as a period of time when farmers clear land for new planting, and they burn the ground to fertilize the soil. It’s a controlled burn. It’s supposed to be healthy and good. It’s getting rid of the old to make space for the new. It’s change.

 

Burning Season was real. From “my eye never healed” to “you were not something I planned to lose”, I’m content with the fact that every single word on this album is true and real and was experienced and felt. I wasn’t going to be satisfied if I fudged the narrative to fit a rhyme scheme, or threw in a “fuck you!!” song just for the hell of it. There was no hell of it.

 

Burning Season was hard to figure out. Would it be a confession? A plea? A rebirth? An acceptance? An obituary? Would it hurt more than help? Would it be a trail of bread crumbs or would it be a wind that blows the path away completely? The truth is, it was all of those things, at one point or another.

 

Burning Season was incredibly cathartic. Recording this project on a farm in Connecticut with truly some of my best friends in the entire world was an unforgettable experience. I have no other words. From the coffee in the morning to the beers at night there was not a moment I was unsatisfied.

 

Burning Season is a compilation of quite possibly everything I’ve wanted to say but couldn’t. A lot of these feelings linger, and after years of wondering how I would ever do it, I have learned to coexist with them. They’re fine roommates. Sometimes we talk over coffee in the morning, sometimes we pass each other awkwardly, and sometimes we say nothing at all but we both feel each other's presence like anvils on our chests.
