I AM PROUD OF THE LOVE THAT I GIVE!

There is something so freeing about this song being out, and there was something so freeing about writing it. During the period of time I was living in when I wrote this song, the last thing I wanted to hear (but coincidentally, the thing I heard most), was that at least some good songs were going to come out of it. Damn you all for being right.

This song is a combination of everything I’ve learned, left, felt, and kept from this past year. There was never really a way I knew how to put everything I have ever felt into a song (sounds impossible, right?). Yet somehow, in the middle of nowhere Minnesota, in a place that I simultaneously hated and yet couldn’t ever see myself leaving (even after all! after everything!) I wrote about everything I had ever felt; I wrote The Love That I Give.

I want to give thanks to the people that I always give thanks to, but who are never undeserving of the applause: Liam, for believing in this song from the beginning, and for an outstanding performance on drums. Justin, for your co-engineering and your humor in the early morning hours in Studio E during daylight savings. Jake, for thinking this sounded emo enough to put your name to, and for your incredible (as always) “scratch” bass. Wyatt, for lending me your home and your guitar to write this song, but more importantly, for the pedal steel performance that never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Steve, for adding a wonderful addition to the song with your keys, and in turn, bringing it to life. Last, but never least, Charlie, for being the most talented and driven producer, performer, mixer, and engineer I’ll ever know. This song would be nothing without you. “Even after all,” thank you.
